Endodontics, or root canal treatment, is the name given to all the procedures performed to treat diseases of the vascular nerve community (dental pulp) inside the tooth.
When the pulp (the soft layer inside the tooth containing nerves, blood and lymph vessels) is damaged beyond repair, the pulp dies. This is usually caused by bacteria in broken teeth or deep decay. The bacteria cause inflammation in the core of the tooth. If the damaged or diseased pulp is not removed, the tooth and surrounding tissues are exposed to infection. And eventually you can lose your tooth completely.
Natural teeth must be protected to the last point by treatment. One of the methods used to save the tooth is root canal treatment.
